UPDATE ON MAPS AND COURSES
Course Planner Marko Uotila
The maps and courses are ready and waiting for orienteerers competing in Sippu-Jukola
Maps
The maps and courses of Sippu-Jukola were printed in March 2005 by ER-Paino. The scale used is 1:10 000 with a 5-meter contour interval. There will be two separate map sheets sized A3 and A2. The time-consuming task of putting the 15 000 maps in their plastic folders will soon be completed.
Courses
The courses were completed in January. The total length of the Venla Relay is 24.3 km, and the estimated winning time is 2 hours and 41 minutes. The total length of the Jukola Relay is 78.8 km, and the estimated winning time is 7 hours and 32 minutes. For competitors, the courses offer many different types of challenges.
Concerning the use of any nature conservation areas overlapping the competition terrain, cooperation with the environmental administration for Southeast Finland has been fruitful, and all the delicate areas of the terrain have been taken into account in the planning of the courses. Also, the best areas of the competition terrain have been successfully utilized in the courses. Cooperation with the land owners and the owners of hunting rights has also been successful since the beginning. There have been no logging operations or any other changes made to the competition terrain during the winter or spring, and the constructions built last autumn have endured the winter well.
